I have been waiting a long time to write this review because I have been concentrating too much on the newest products, the unexpected hair pomades and clays and have been ignoring a staple that’s been in my home for years. So I give you the Royal Crown pomade review!
I know for sure that a lot of homes have at least a tin of RC ever present and people don’t only use it on their hair.
I will try to describe this product as good as I can, and if you have questions let me know. Or, even better, get yourself a tin of this stuff, I promise you will find a use for it.
Royal Crown Pomade Review
Packaging
While the box is not its strong point, it is very recognizable and I have become attached to its design. The tin is made of cardboard and metal and you get the recognizable red packaging. Unlike the pomade itself, the hair dressing has a silver embossed lid and a green line in the center of the box.
Look and feel
Once you open the lid, you can see the product: it has a milky white, shiny and greasy aspect. You can tell a lot about how a hair product will perform even by just looking at it. With the Royal Crown hair dressing, you will immediately know that it’s going to be oily! The smell is very old-school, it reminds me of soapy cleanliness, starched sheets. I cannot put my finger on it, but it seems like a familiar smell.
Consistency and application
The consistency is surprising and defining for this product: it is very light and greasy. I strongly recommend not leaving it in the sun or in a heated environment, because it turns to liquid. When kept at a normal temperature, it has a very light texture and it spreads very easily. The application is a breeze, you don’t have to do anything, and it just goes in super easily. It is the nicest combing, far from pulling or tugging your hair.
Hold
This is not made to build sky-high pompadours. This is the main reason I wrote this Royal Crown pomade review because I want you to have the correct expectations. It does not hold strongly, it keeps your hair neat, but does not provide volume or hold. It does instead provide a lot of shine, and it has a truly classic look to it. This is the stuff Elvis and James Dean used for those super shiny gentleman’s parted hairstyles.
Bottom line, it is the perfect pick for a classic, retro look. It is oily, has an incredibly simple ingredient list and it does what it’s supposed to do: shine on!
